Batu Bolong Beach Canggu at golden hour

Canggu has grown from a quiet surf village into one of Bali’s most popular destinations for travelers, digital nomads, and long-term visitors. But “Canggu” covers a lot of ground — and where you stay makes a significant difference to your experience.

The Three Main Neighborhoods

Batu Bolong - the heart of it all

Batu Bolong is the most central and walkable part of Canggu. Jl. Batu Bolong runs directly to the beach, and everything — cafés, surf schools, restaurants, ATMs — is within a short walk or motorbike ride.

If you want to be in the middle of the action without being in a party hostel, Batu Bolong is the right choice. It’s busy but not chaotic, walkable but not touristy in the way Seminyak is.

Best for: First-time Canggu visitors, surfers, digital nomads who want easy access to cafés and coworking spaces.

Berawa — quieter, more upscale

Berawa sits about 3km north of Batu Bolong. It’s less dense, with wider streets and a slightly more residential feel. Finns Beach Club is here, and there are some excellent restaurants and villas in the area.

Best for: Travelers who want space and quiet but still want to be close to Canggu’s amenities.

Pererenan — the quiet end

Pererenan is Canggu’s most relaxed neighborhood — still close enough to everything, but with more rice fields, less traffic, and a slower pace. It’s become popular with longer-term visitors who want a more authentic feel.

Best for: Long stays, travelers who prefer quiet over convenience.

Guest House vs Villa — Which is Better?

Guest house — right for you if you’re traveling solo or as a couple, want privacy without paying villa prices, and don’t need a shared pool. A well-chosen guest house in Batu Bolong puts you closer to the beach and cafés than most villas.

Villa — right for you if you’re traveling as a group of 3–6 people and want your own pool. Per-person cost drops significantly with more guests.

FAQ
